Import items from Excel to a Sage Estimate

Digital Dryshack #100

While attending last year’s TUG conference in Las Vegas, an attendee in one of the sessions asked Darren from Sage if there was a way to import items from Excel into a Sage estimate. Darren replied that it was neither currently supported nor on the development short list for Sage to build in the near future. I got to thinking and approached Rob, our resident CTO /programmer /SQL expert about the feasibility and level of effort. Long story short, we worked on it and have Fusion Excel to Sage up and running, tested, and ready for prime time. Give us a call at 360-891-5811 or email [email protected] for a trial copy you can test on your own system.

The new tool has 3 parts

(1)- a simple config utility to identify the Sage SQL instance, estimates database, and Excel file location

(2)- the Excel template with the columns necessary to create a valid item in Estimating,

Excel grid with a couple sample items

and (3)- the control panel to execute the imported items into a Sage estimate.

That’s all there is to it. It takes about the same time to import 5 items as it does 100, so economy of scale works to your benefit, saving many hours of manual data entry that’s error prone and tedious.

We look forward to hearing from you soon to help add efficiency to your Sage Estimating workflow.
