In the past year, we heard from two different contractors who experienced the nightmare tale of expansive (and expensive) data loss. It’s the kind of thing we construction jocks aren’t used to giving much thought to, but it’s one your company needs NOT to ignore. In both cases, the company had an irresponsible or inexperienced IT subcontractor at the root of the problem.
In one case, the IT sub deleted data without asking.
In the other case, server hardware failed, as it will always do, (not if but when).
All these headaches could have been avoided by having a simple, scheduled backup routine in place for the company’s estimating and financial data. Now it’s even easier than ever with cloud data storage as cheap as it s now.
