DD# ??, First Look: eTakeoff digital takeoff software

eTakeoff is a relatively new entry in the arguably crowded construction digital takeoff software marketplace. We couldn’t help but wonder if there is sufficient room for another player in this fairly narrow industry niche, pioneered by OnCenter Software’s OnScreen Takeoff. We were even more curious when we heard that Curtis Peltz was eTakeoff’s CEO. Curtis is best known for his many years at Timberline Software, and is largely credited as the brains behind Timberline Precision Estimating’s ‘s dominance in that field. Mr. Peltz’s career goes all the way back to programming mini-computers in the 70’s , up to and including his tenure as Timberline’s president and CEO until his resignation in 2006, following its purchase by U.K.-based Sage.  We had heard through our industry network that McGraw-Hill had selected eTakeoff as its takeoff engine of choice for its industry-leading planroom service. Our curiosity finally got the best of us, and we called Curtis to request a demo of eTakeoff.

Curtis’ demo put aside any doubts that there’s room for another competitor, and in our opinion, raises the bar for digital takeoff.  It offers OST’s intuitive ease of use, Planswift’s formula-writing capability, and goes beyond each of its competitors features in the process. In addition to its
